駅にワイヤーロックを置いておくというのは、ほかの自転車通勤族も使っている技で、何本かがぶら下がっている。私のほかにも、２台のドロップハンドルの自転車が同じように止めている（スタンドがないから置ける場所は限られているのだ）。
カゴが付いていないので、荷物は背中に背負うしかない。これまで使っていたデイパックはバイクでは問題は無かったが、自転車では背中が蒸れる。ロードバイクでは、前傾姿勢が強く背中とパックの間に遊びができないから唯でさえ体温が上がって汗をかいているのに逃がすことができないせいだ。

ロード自転車にはサスペンションはない。唯一の弾性体はタイヤだが、8kg/cm^2というような高気圧のタイヤにはクッションとしての役割は期待できない。シートも薄くて乗り心地は後回しだ。このため、ロード自転車乗りはパッド付きのズボンというのかスパッツ状のズボンをはく。しかし、一般人がゆるゆると走るのにあのパンツはちょっと気後れする。
そこで、購入したのは短パンのようなパッド付きハーフパンツ。股間に大きなパッドが入っている。これでかなり衝撃から股間を守ることができる（に違いない）。
バイクに乗るときは夏でもグローブをするのが習慣だ。もしもの転倒のときにダメージが全然違ってくるし、普段でも振動で手がかゆくなることを防いでくれる。ゲル状吸収材を内蔵したパッドが入っている物を使用中。
サンデーライダーで、遅くても手袋はしたほうがいい。
冬になると指切りグローブでは指先がしびれる。変速もブレーキもままならないので、ユニクロのウィンドストップフリースグローブを購入。しかし、これの対応気温は10度前後で、10度を大きく割るようになると指先がしびれるようになってしまった。
最終的には、SRXで使っていた冬用シンサレート中綿入りナイロングローブ（コープ神戸製）を使用している。品質的な問題で使うのをやめていたのでもうちょっと暖かいものを購入予定。
安全を語るときに頭部の保護は何より重要だ。こんなちゃちなヘルメットでどれだけ保護できるかは未知数だが、ないよりははるかにマシだろう。
購入したのは、OGKのガイア。色は無難な黒。フリーサイズなので、通販でも安心。
息子がオークションで買った自転車にSPDペダルの新品がついていた。
自転車用に買ったスニーカーに穴が開いてきたので、思い切ってSPDシューズにした。
